My name is Christopher Lueck and I'm the creator of LearnSlapstick.com. I love slapstick! It is a true passion of mine. I have been performing slapstick all my life. When I was a kid I would fall down the stairs to make my sister laugh and now I perform and teach slapstick full time in NYC. It is my dream job. If you are ever in NYC be sure to look me up, I am always happy to sit with a coffee and talk physical comedy! Maybe you can even catch one of my classes or shows. But this website is about learning slapstick techniques. Let me start by telling you about my class. Joel Jeske and I created a slapstick class about three years ago. We call it The Slapstick Dojo. The class uses martial arts training techniques such as Waza and Kata to teach comedy slaps, trips, falls, and acts/sketches. It may sound complex, but its not, its fun! The Martial Arts influence just allowed us a structure to hang the comedy techniques on. Unlike most other comedy classes, we did not focus on creating a character or creating performance material, instead our focus was just on physical slapstick technique. Kind of like an exercise class or yoga class for funny people. The idea worked real well! We taught hundreds of NYC clowns, magicians, improv performers, sketch comedy writers, actors, and even stand up comedians how to get physically funny. When Zach Braff's(Scrubs) new play, All New People, needed some slapstick moves they called me in to teach Justin Bartha(The Hangover) and Anna Camp(True Blood) some safe and silly slapstick falls! As the class progressed, It became clear to me that there were not many resources to learn slapstick. There are only a few classes in the country, and they are not easy to find(just google slapstick classes and see what comes up...not much). Also there are no books currently in print that teach slapstick(I only found 1 ever published) and there were no instructional videos. If you wanted to learn slapstick your best bet was to watch some old Buster Keaton films on slow motion and try to copy them(this is a fun rainy day activity, but not totally safe). There was no system that taught slapstick in a clear and safe way that was available to everyone. UNTIL NOW! I just created a DVD that teaches lots of slapstick. I am very excited to share the joy of slapstick with everyone. My DVD is like any other how-to video. In it I show you step-by-step how to perform some slapstick moves including trips, slaps, and falls. It is awesome and totally unique! There really is nothing like this in the world.
